SUMMARY:The 3rd edition of Esfera CSIC Norte comes to Vigo to discuss sustainable fishing
DESCRIPTION:Free registration | Register for free \nNext Thursday\, 28 April\, the Institute of Marine Research will take part in the event “Esfera CSIC Norte”\, an initiative of the CSIC Delegation in Asturias and the Oviedo Official Chamber of Commerce\, in collaboration with the CSIC Delegation in Galicia and the Chamber of Commerce of Pontevedra\, Vigo and Vilagarcía de Arousa. \n“Esfera CSIC Norte\, with C for Science\, Chambers of Commerce and Cooperation” is an open space for innovation\, research\, technology transfer\, scientific outreach and the productive sector\, bringing together CSIC centres in northern and north-western Spain and Castile and León\, as well as the Chambers of Commerce in these regions. \nTwo previous editions have been held: in 2019 in Cantabria\, “Improving health through our data. New challenges for the future”\, and in 2021 in Asturias\, “Hydrogen. Strategy for a sustainable future”. \nThis edition is supported by the Regional Ministry of the Sea of the Xunta de Galicia\, the Ministry of Agriculture\, Fisheries and Food\, the European Fisheries Control Agency\, the Vigo Fishing Vessel Owners’ Cooperative\, the National Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds\, Marine Instruments and Banco Santander. \nThe event is aimed at the entire fisheries sector. Free registration is open through the following link. \nIt will take place at the facilities of the Chamber of Commerce of Pontevedra\, Vigo and Vilagarcía (Calle República Argentina\, 18A\, Vigo)\, from 09:00 to 14:30\, with talks\, round tables and workshops. \nCoinciding with the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries\, ESFERA CSIC NORTE will be a meeting point for knowledge transfer and exchange among the different stakeholders involved in fisheries management\, where opportunities to achieve sustainable fishing will be discussed from scientific\, business\, social and public-administration perspectives. \nThere will be a session devoted to “Challenges for the sustainable exploitation of fisheries”\, featuring experts from different backgrounds\, including researchers from the Institute of Marine Research and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography; the company Marine Instruments; the presidents of the Vigo Fishing Vessel Owners’ Cooperative and the National Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds; and representatives of the Xunta de Galicia\, the Ministry of Agriculture\, Fisheries and Food and the European Fisheries Control Agency. \nScientific culture is essential for bringing scientific and technological advances closer to society. On this occasion\, Esfera will also include the Institute of Marine Research initiative “E que rico sabe o mar! Sustainability from sea to table”\, the second issue in the “Marine Science Comics” series\, a teaching and outreach tool for students and the general public\, in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). It will be led by the IIM Scientific Culture Unit and will involve secondary-school and vocational-training students.
