SUMMARY:Climate change & tropicalization on Levant Reef biodiversity and ecosystem functions
DESCRIPTION:Con motivo da Década das Ciencias Oceánicas promovida pola ONU (#ODS14)\, que pretende xerar un marco que garanta que as ciencias mariñas apoien plenamente as accións para xestionar de forma sostible os océanos e mares do mundo\, e así acadar os obxectivos da Axenda 2030 para Desenvolvemento Sostible\, os centros de investigación mariña do CSIC: IMEDEA\, CEAB\, ICM\, ICMAN\, e o IIM organizaron unha serie de xornadas conxuntas baixo o título “Seamposium: Dealing with new borders of marine research ” pola que se crea un foro de debate arredor dun seminario mensual realizado por un recoñecido experto en diferentes temas mariños. SUMMARY:The Oceans in a Changing Climate
DESCRIPTION:Con motivo de la Década de las Ciencias Marinas impulsada por la ONU (#ODS14) que pretende generar un marco común que garantice que las ciencias marinas respaldan plenamente las acciones para gestionar de manera sostenible los océanos y mares del mundo\, y alcanzar así los objetivos de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible\, los centros de marinos del CSIC: IMEDEA\, CEAB\, ICM\, ICMAN\, y el IIM hemos organizado un ciclo de conferencias conjunto titulado “Seamposium: Dealing with new frontiers of marine research” por el cual se crea un Foro de discusión entorno a un seminario mensual realizado por un experto reconocido en diferentes temáticas marinas. \nThe Oceans in a Changing Climate\nThe Earth is undergoing a major rapid warming\, unprecedented in its speed for millions of years. How is this affecting the physics of the oceans\, and thereby us? The lecture will cover ocean warming and its consequences: 1) Arctic summer sea ice cover has shrunk by half in extent and also in thickness\, so that only about a quarter of the ice mass that was normal until the 1970s is left now. 2) Thermal expansion and loss of land ice is causing global sea-level to rise\, by around 20 cm thus far\, and accelerating. The latest IPCC report concluded that 2 meters by the year 2100 cannot be ruled out. 3) Tropical cyclones draw their energy from the heat stored in the upper ocean and are consequently already getting more violent with global warming\, and also extending their range to higher latitudes. 4) The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) has been weakening since the mid-twentieth Century and is now weaker than any time in the last 1\,000 years. This is of great concern as it is already having an impact on European weather\, and the AMOC has a tipping point where it will grind to a halt altogether. \nPONENTE:  Dr. Stefan Rahmstorf. Postdam University\, Germany. \nStefan Rahmstorf is a German oceanographer and climatologist. Since 2000\, he has been a Professor of Physics of the Oceans at Potsdam University. He studied physical oceanography at Bangor University and received his PhD in oceanography from Victoria University of Wellington (1990). His work focuses on the role of ocean currents in climate change. He was one of the lead authors of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report. Rahmstorf is a co-founder of the blog Real Climate\, which has been described by Nature as one of the top-5 science blogs in 2006\, and included among the 15 best environmental websites by Time in 2008. He is a frequent contributor of articles on climate and climate change/global warming in the popular press\, some of which are internationally syndicated via Project Syndicate. He writes a regular column in the German environmental magazine Zeo2\, and has published the children’s science book Wolken\, Wind und Wetter (Clouds\, Wind\, and Weather) on weather and climate. Rahmstorf has commented on climate change and climate policy on TV and radio. He was portrayed as one of the world’s 10 leading climate scientists by the Financial Times in 2009. The University of Flensburg found that among all climate scientists from Germany\, Rahmstorf published the largest number of studies which ranked amongst the most-cited in the scientific literature during the years 1994–2013. Rahmstorf was a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) from 2004 till 2013.

DESCRIPTION:O construtor e multiinstrumentista Abraham Cupeiro tocará na noite do venres\, 30 de setembro\, ás 20.30h\, no Teatro Afundación de Vigo\, nunha colaboración co Instituto de Investigacións Mariñas do CSIC co gallo da Ocean Night – Noite Europea das Persoas Investigadoras (MSCA-ERN). \nO concerto\, con entradas de balde\, é o produto final dunha colaboración entre o artista sarriao e a comunidade científica do Instituto; a través dunha serie de visitas ao centro e de reunións cos grupos de investigación e co equipo da súa Unidade de Cultura Científica. \n\nAs entradas\, que poden adquirirse xa en ataquilla.com están a esgotarse rápidamente\, polo que recomendamos gardar o teu espazo o antes posible. \n\nOs Neuston Experiments e a Ocean Night do CSIC\nO evento\, denominado Neuston Experiment 3: In concert with the Ocean\, é xa o terceiro da serie dos Neuston Experiments\, comezados no ano 2008\, coa participación de artistas como Vitor Freixanes\, Rosa Aneiros\, Manuel Sendón\, Marilar Aleixandre ou Miguelanxo Prado\, así como Mónica de Nut na última edición de 2021. \nA música\, inspirada pola ciencia mariña\, combinarase cunha montaxe audiovisual que se proxectará durante o evento\, montada a partir de imaxes reais fornecidas pola comunidade científica do instituto de Bouzas. \nO acontecemento será un dos moitos organizados esa noite como celebración da Ocean Night ( ‘Noite do Océano’\, en galego). A Ocean Night é un programa de divulgación científica integral de 2 anos de duración (2022 y 2023) que busca fomentar a chamada “cultura oceánica”\, a consciencia do impacto que os ecosistemas mariños teñen na sociedade e viceversa\, así como pór en valor o coñecemento científico\, a investigación e as persoas que traballan neste eido. \n\nDescubre todos os eventos que dende a Ocean Night preparamos por toda a península. Accede a web. \n\nÉ\, ademais\, un dos proxectos financiados pola European Researcher’s Night (MSCA-ERN)\, unha convocatoria europea de fomento da Cultura Científica promovida dende 2005 pola Comisión Europea dentro das accións Marie Sktodowska-Curie do programa Horizonte Europa. A MSCA-ERN\, ten lugar anualmente e de forma simultánea en máis de 371 cidades europeas de máis de 30 países. O seu principal obxectivo é achegar as persoas que investigan á cidadanía para que coñezan o seu traballo e os beneficios que aportan á sociedade. \nA organización do evento recae sobre cinco dos principais centros de investigación mariña e costeira do Consello Superior de Investigacións Científicas (CSIC): o Institut Mediterrani d’Estudis Avançats (IMEDEA-UiB-CSIC; Esporles)\, o Institut de Ciències del Mar  (ICM-CSIC; Barcelona)\, o Centre d’Estudis Avançats de Blanes (CEAB-CSIC; Blanes)\, o Instituto de Ciencias del Mar de Andalucía (ICMAN-CSIC; Cádiz)\, e o propio IIM-CSIC de Vigo. Xunto con eles\, colaboran tamén a Unidade de Cultura Científica da Delegación do CSIC en Galicia\, a Unidade de Tecnoloxía Mariña do CSIC (UTM-CSIC) e o Instituto de Acuicultura Torre de la Sal (IATS-CSIC; Castellò). \nO artista\, Abraham Cupeiro\nAbraham Cupeiro (Sarria\, 1980) é un construtor e multintrumentista galego que busca a recuperación de instrumentos perdidos no tempo para utilizalos na creación de novas sonoridades. \nAdemais da súa fonda formación musical\, Abraham destaca por ser unha das poucas persoas que toca o Karnix (trompeta celta da Idade de Ferro) e por recuperar un instrumento ancestral da tradición galega desaparecido na segunda metade do século XX: a corna. \nConstrutor dos seu propios instrumentos\, o sarriao conta actualmente con 3 proxectos musicais en marcha: Resoando no pasado\, Pangea e Sons esquecidos. Destaca ademais a súa labor de divulgación musical en escolas\, redes sociais e incluso a través de programas como La Resistencia. \nProxecto financiado pola Unión Europea\n \nA Noite Europea dos Investigadores é un proxecto europeo de divulgación científica promovido dende 2005 pola Comisión Europea dentro das accións Marie Sktodowska-Curie do programa Horizonte Europa\, que se desenvolve anualmente e de forma simultánea en máis de 371 cidades europeas de máis de 30 países.
