About the IIM

The Institute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC) is one of the leading marine research centers in the Iberian Peninsula. Looking out over the Atlantic from Vigo, a city with a deep connection to the sea,  IIM-CSIC faces the challenge of advancing our knowledge of the ocean, from its physical characteristics to the food we obtain from it and the processes that interconnect the entire system.

As part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), at the IIM we take pride in the interdisciplinary nature of our work, whose aims are to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and support society in overcoming the enormous challenges we face.

We respond to global challenges, we respond to local problems
