Maritime Spatial Planning is an integrative process aimed at coping with the increasing demand for space by different maritime sectors while preserving the integrity of marine ecosystems. One of its key objectives is to prevent conflicts between sectors that compete for maritime space by finding specific locations that can optimize production for each activity while minimizing its interference with others.
The IIM-CSIC has the monitoring and modeling capabilities to help find the best location and to avoid interferences among activities such as ocean energy, fisheries, aquaculture, ports and maritime transport routes, submarine pipelines and Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). You can read about all our capabilities and associated services below.
