Flow Cytometry

Descripción

The IIM's Flow Cytometry Service (FCS) consists of a FACSCalibur flow cytometer and all the necessary associated equipment (MilliQ system, balances, vortex mixer, etc.). The cytometer allows applying a wide variety of techniques, although it is commonly used to detect and count bacteria and small phototrophic protists in marine environments.

It also allows sorting radioactively marked or fluorescence-activated cells, with certain limitations inherent to the model. The FCS is used by IIM researchers but is also available to other researchers, organisms and companies on a pay-for-use basis. It currently operates on a self-service basis.

Objectives & Tasks

  • Offering an in-house flow cytometry service at the IIM (FACScalibur flow cytometer) to analyze plankton samples and other types of samples.
  • Offering an external flow cytometry service to other organisms and companies.

Portfolio of services

  • COUNT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BACTERIA IN MARINE SAMPLES
  • COUNT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PICO- AND NANOPLANKTON IN MARINE SAMPLES
