Society
Science is not complete until shared with society. As a public research institution, the IIM understands that its commitment is with society, fostering a two-way relationship with its surrounding community, listening to its needs and contributing to their solution by sharing the scientific method and the knowledge we create in a way that can be understood by every member of the public.
From educational resources and Open House activities that foster UNESCO's Ocean Literacy to our budding efforts to research the field of Science & Society Studies itself. From open science policies to committees for inclusive and more diverse science. That's how we are working now to build the Institute of Marine Research of the future.
An institution that bridges the gap between science and the wider society and shows that, together, we can advance better and faster.
The IIM-CSIC works for a marine science that engages society, fostering ocean literacy both locally and globally. From our UCC+i, we look for innovative formats of public engagement, support citizen science projects and provide new insights in the field of Science, Technology & Society studies.
Science should be transparent. In collaboration with our Library & Documentation team, we foster an Open Science policy that pushes for research results to be more accessible for everyone, opening a door to technological innovation, deeper bonds with other researchers and useful solutions to social challenges.
