The Ocean Processes and Global Change group at IIM-CSIC presented last December the new “Ocean Manifesto 2026” calendar, produced in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
This initiative, now in its seventh edition, brings together drawings and reflections on the sea created by the participants themselves. This year, the theme focuses on “marine species that are culturally significant for our communities and the importance of protecting them”, highlighting the deep bond that connects many coastal cultures of the Pacific and Atlantic with the ocean.
This edition includes contributions from students at IES de Teis, Kashia Elementary School in California, the rural school of Pichicolo (Chile), Escola Deborah Silva Camargo and Escola Prof. Alziro Bastos dos Santos in Cananéia (Brazil), Escola de Ensino Fundamental Horto Madre Raffo in Porto Alegre (Brazil), and Ransom Everglades School in Miami.
The calendar brings together science, art and education, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of protecting marine species and preserving the cultural heritage that the ocean represents for communities around the world.
