Pilot Plant
At the IIM, we are committed to providing the industrial sector with innovative technologies and new processes. However, bringing the knowledge we develop beyond the lab is not always easy.
Scaling is a key step to transform our knowledge into useful devices and protocols for the industry, as processes at a small lab scale might not behave the same way or achieve the same performance at larger scales. The Pilot Plant is a singular infrastructure of the IIM that includes medium- to large-sized reactors, centrifuges, blenders and other devices commonly used in factories.
A first-of-its-kind installation, created in 1973 with a focus on canned food research, the plant allows our researchers and technicians to test their work in real-life scenarios. Here, they can purify bioproducts and study biological systems and processes while improving their reliability in the eyes of the productive and transformative sector and expanding the scope of their impact.
Below you can view the groups that usually work in the Pilot Plant, as well as their related capabilities, research lines and innovation sectors.
