My research investigates coastal ecosystem functioning, focusing on carbon biogeochemistry across the sediment-water-atmosphere continuum and its feedback with nitrogen and oxygen cycling. I pioneer the understanding of marine resilience to climate change and anthropogenic pressures in coastal biogeochemical hotspots. Currently, I study the reactivity of subterranean estuaries and subtidal sands, submarine groundwater discharge impacts on shellfish grounds, and benthic-pelagic coupling in coastal seas.
