The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the Institute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC) is organising, together with the Library of Galicia (Xunta de Galicia) and with the collaboration of the CSIC Delegation’s Scientific Culture Unit in Galicia, an interactive storytelling activity based on the comic “And how delicious the sea tastes!” for children aged 10 to 12. The activity is part of the Month of Science in Galician.
The activity will be based on an interactive storytelling session using the IIM-CSIC comic. Participants will enjoy rigorous, age-appropriate content about marine-origin foods, fishing and aquaculture, traceability, conservation and revaluation, among other topics, in an entertaining and accessible way.
The workshop will follow the comic characters Javi, Aldara and Helena.
This activity is organised by the Library of Galicia (Xunta de Galicia) and CSIC to celebrate Science and Technology Week at CSIC and the Month of Science in Galician in libraries.

And how delicious the sea tastes!
This is the second of four issues in the “Marine Science Comics” series, led by the IIM Scientific Culture Unit and funded by the General CSIC Foundation through the Cuenta la Ciencia call.
The comic, about 15 pages long, is designed both as a teaching tool for 5th and 6th year primary school classrooms and as outreach material for the general public. It deals with marine-origin foods from fishing and aquaculture, and is guided by the research carried out by the IIM Food Technology Department.
Its goals include introducing basic aspects of seafood products, their relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals and the local environment, and educating schools and the general public about the importance of the ocean as a source of food and bioproducts related to nutrition, health and human well-being. The final aim is to increase ocean literacy and promote responsible citizenship.
The initiative, coordinated by the IIM Scientific Culture Unit, seeks to bring society closer to knowledge and research on the ocean and its resources. It includes four issues, one for each IIM department: Biotechnology and Aquaculture, Ecology and Marine Resources, Oceanography, and Food Technology.
