Encontros Espresso: Prof. Alberto C. Naveira Garabato — Rewriting the tale of deep-ocean upwelling

Espresso Meetings: Prof. Alberto C. Naveira Garabato — Rewriting the Tale of Deep-Ocean Upwelling
The Institute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC) will host a new seminar in its Espresso Meetings series, featuring Professor Alberto C. Naveira Garabato, Regius Professor of Ocean Sciences at the University of Southampton (United Kingdom) and recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.
In his talk, entitled “Rewriting the Tale of Deep-Ocean Upwelling”, the researcher will explore the role of the Southern Ocean in regulating the global climate, focusing on how turbulence and interactions with sea ice influence ocean circulation and the future of our oceans.
Born in A Coruña, Alberto C. Naveira Garabato is one of Galicia’s most internationally renowned oceanographers and a leading expert on deep-ocean circulation and the processes linking the oceans to the climate system. His scientific career has been recognised with numerous international awards and distinctions.
The seminar will take place on Thursday, 29 October, at 11:00 a.m. in the IIM-CSIC Assembly Hall, and will also be available online.
The event is open to all IIM-CSIC staff, regardless of their field of work, and offers an opportunity to learn first-hand about the research of an internationally recognised leader in physical oceanography.
After the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas over a traditional roscón cake provided by Copena.
