IIM-CSIC: 7 decades navigating marine research in Galicia

The CSIC Institute of Marine Research, in Vigo,  will broadcast soon* the event “IIM-CSIC: 7 decades navigating marine research in Galicia”.

Last 3 October marked 70 years since the founding of CSIC’s Institute of Fisheries Research (the institution from which IIM-CSIC and five other CSIC marine centres emerged). At this event, the Institute aims to offer a brief overview of its 70-year history and of the changes that have taken place in marine science from the perspective of the people who have been part of the IIM community during these 7 decades in Vigo.

Programme

The programme will include the participation of Dr Ricardo Prego, IIM researcher and co-author of the book “The Institute of Fisheries Research: Three decades of history of Spanish marine research”, as well as some of the figures who have passed through this centre during its 7 decades in Vigo.

Part of Science and Technology Week

The event is organised with the collaboration of the CSIC Delegation in Galicia and takes place within the framework of CSIC Science and Technology Week, as well as the joint celebration of the 70th anniversary of CSIC’s Institute of Fisheries Research.

It will take place in the Assembly Hall of IIM-CSIC, in Bouzas. We encourage you to attend this event online and to learn a little more about the history and legacy of our Institute, a history that bears witness to the profound changes that have taken place in marine research carried out in Galicia and that has marked many of the paths that those of us working in this field of science are following today.
