Gender equality and diversity
The IIM-CSIC promotes gender equality in research and works towards a scientific community in which everyone has the same opportunities for professional development, participation and recognition, regardless of their gender or any other personal circumstances.
From the Institute’s inception to the present day, the number of women at the IIM-CSIC has increased significantly across various professional fields, including scientific, technical and managerial roles. This development represents significant progress, but it also highlights the importance of continuing to promote measures that help to ensure effective equality of opportunity and prevent any form of discrimination.
Through initiatives promoted by the IIM-CSIC Management and the Equality Committee, the Institute fosters an organisational culture based on equality, respect and non-discrimination. Its main areas of focus include raising awareness and providing training for staff, assessing the situation at the Institute, disseminating resources and information materials, collaborating with other organisations, and promoting work-life balance measures, as well as measures to prevent and address sexual harassment and gender-based harassment.
The IIM-CSIC also takes part in commemorating significant dates that help to highlight progress and challenges in the areas of equality and human rights, such as 11 February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science; 8 March, International Women’s Day; 28 June, International LGBTI+ Pride Day; 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women; and 3 December, International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
These events, alongside other awareness-raising initiatives, help to recognise diversity, identify different forms of discrimination and promote a more inclusive society that respects the rights of all people.
Through these initiatives, the IIM-CSIC aims to foster an inclusive, diverse and discrimination-free scientific community, committed to genuine equality of opportunity both within the Institute and in its relationship with society.
