Sustainability

Sustainability, wellbeing and social responsibility are core values for the IIM-CSIC and form part of our approach to understanding and conducting marine research. Our work helps to expand our knowledge of the oceans and understand their influence on the planet, with the aim of moving towards a more sustainable future and improving food security, health and the wellbeing of society.

In line with the CSIC’s 2024–2026 Sustainability Plan, the Institute promotes the integration of environmental, social, energy and economic sustainability criteria into its research activities, resource management and organisational culture.

Through initiatives driven by the Institute’s Management and the Sustainability Committee, we are working to reduce our environmental footprint, encourage the efficient use of energy and water, and promote responsible practices amongst our scientific and technical community. We also promote initiatives focused on wellbeing at work, social responsibility and the creation of a healthy, inclusive and participatory working environment, committed to caring for the environment and our local community.
