Video | The Sea of the End of the World
The coast of Galicia was considered for centuries as the end of the known world, with a troubled and mysterious sea, under whose surface, in addition to stories and legends, one of the richest biodiversity of all the waters of the planet is found. A sea full of life.
This extraordinary abundance is due to the oceanic upwelling, which brings mineral nutrients to the surface water layers.
The Chapter 1 of this documentary shows how the cephalopods have their kingdom here. Creatures with highly developed intelligence and remarkable learning abilities. Their great versatility allows them to modify the appearance of their skin to imitate the color of the sea floor, achieving a perfect camouflage to go unnoticed and to hunt. A very interesting part of this documentary is the behavior and reproduction pattern, very little known, of cephalopods.
The Chapter 2 of this documentary shows the progress made in recent years in the study of wrasses, rays and spider crabs on the Galician coast, and of pelagic sharks in the Atlantic Ocean, through the marking and monitoring of specimens of these species. All the information obtained will be key to establishing responsible and sustainable fishing criteria for the investigated species that guarantee their conservation.
