Vigo, 6 June 2023. Vigo will host tomorrow a conference on marine citizen science on the North Atlantic coast. The event, entitled “Looking North”, will bring together specialists, organisations and people interested in marine observation and citizen participation in science.
The meeting will include lectures, a round table and practical workshops. It is free of charge, with prior registration, and aims to promote collaboration among citizens, researchers and organisations working to observe and protect the marine environment.
The event is organised by “Observadores do Mar”, CSIC’s marine citizen-science platform, and by researcher Miquel Planas, from IIM-CSIC. The initiative seeks to strengthen participation networks along the North Atlantic coast and to encourage the collection of useful data for marine research and conservation.
Throughout the day, participants will learn about ongoing citizen-science projects, methodologies for observing marine biodiversity and the role that society can play in improving knowledge of the ocean.
