Join the IIM | PhD Opportunities (FPU 2022)
The Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas (IIM-CSIC) offers 1 research topic to apply for pre-doctoral contracts of 4 years duration with us, within the program Ayudas para la formación de profesorado universitario (FPU2022) from the Ministry of Universities.
The purpose of these aids is to facilitate research training in doctoral programs for the achievement of a PhD, as well as the acquisition of skills that facilitate the future incorporation of these people into the Spanish system of higher education and scientific research. The contract will have a duration of four years and will also finance a stay in foreign centers, and exceptionally in Spain, which contributes to the improvement or specialization of pre-doctoral training.
In addition to the specific topic we offer to apply for these contracts, we invite you to explore our website to find other research groups that best suit your expertise, and to contact potential supervisors to share your ideas.

Regarding the FPU 2022 Call, the following groups have shown their interest in the program and are currently looking for an interested candidate to apply with them within the following project:
Humans have brought about unprecedented changes to environments worldwide. For many species, behavioural changes represent the first response to altered conditions. However, within populations, not all individuals respond to changes in the same way. Individual variation in plasticity (i.e. the ability to adjust behaviour to changing conditions), and predictability (i.e. the variability around the average behaviour) can have profound ecological, evolutionary and conservation consequences, but these remain largely unexplored in aquatic environments. In this research line, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore these overlooked levels of behavioural variation in a variety of species and study systems including sharks, rays, bony fish and invertebrates. Some data is already available but more will be collected using aquatic acoustic telemetry. [Opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Esben Olsen from Institute of Marine Research of Norway].
