Join the IIM | PhD Opportunities (FPU 2023)
The Institute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC) offers 2 research topics to apply for pre-doc contracts lasting 4 years within the University Training Aids for University Teacher Training from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (FPU2023).
The purpose of these grants is to facilitate research training in doctoral programs to obtain the title of PhD, as well as the acquisition of skills that facilitate the future incorporation of these people into the Spanish system of higher education, and scientific research. The contract will have a general duration of four years (or up to six for people with disabilities) and will also finance a stay in foreign centers, and exceptionally Spanish ones, that contributes to the improvement or specialization of pre-doctoral training.
If the PhD degree is acquired before the last year of the FPU aid, the beneficiary of the contract will be able to access a period of Postdoctoral Guidance (POP) for up to one year.
In addition to the specific topic we offer to apply for these contracts, we invite you to explore our web to find other research groups that best fit your experience, and contact potential supervisors to share your ideas.
IIM-CSIC is a very competitive host institution that offers the ideal environment to foster and consolidate researchers at any stage of their career. Join the Institute and boost your career with us!
Why IIM?
The Institute belongs to Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, the largest research organization in Spain, the third in Europe and the seventh of the world The IIM-CSIC is one of the leading institutes in marine research in Spain, with a diverse activity and its own strategic units for Internationalization, Transfer and Scientific Culture. Based in the city of Vigo, we offer a dynamic research environment that boosts the careers of our staff, expanding their collaboration networks and increasing their real impact on society.
Two projects to boost your career
The IIM-CSIC, as a marine research institution dedicated to the development of knowledge for sustainable development, conducts multidisciplinary research that responds to global challenges and local concerns and allows a comprehensive and global understanding of marine ecosystems.
With respect to the FPU 2023 Call, the following groups have shown their interest in the program and are currently looking for an interested candidate to apply with them for one of these contracts within the following project:
Supervisors: Beatriz Novoa (beatriznovoa@iim.csic.es) || Patricia Pereiro (patriciapereiro@iim.csic.es)
We will try to understand the changes of microbiomes associated to inflammatory processes or to an infection and how we can modulate them. We will work with several models such as cell culture, in vivo model of zebrafish (Danio rerio) and also we will investigate the effect of immunostimulation to the microbiome of commercial fish species to get better resistance against diseases.
We will apply transcriptomic and next generation sequencing approaches to identify the microbiomes and to analyze the immune responses using flow cytometry, confocal imagen and molecular analysis.
Supervisors: Beatriz Novoa (beatriznovoa@iim.csic.es) || Antonio Figueras (antoniofigueras@iim.csic.es)
We will analyze the genomic diversity of putative bioactive peptides from marine bivalves and other sources. Also we will analyze the functions of these molecules as antiviral, antibacterial and antiinflammatory compounds in the model of human cells and also in a complete animal (model of zebrafish larvae).
We will apply transcriptomic and next generation sequencing approaches to identify the AMPs, their regulations after infections and their effects to be applied in biomedicine and veterinary.
Before completing the procedure, please, carefully read the Call to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.
If you are interested in applying for these contracts with us, please contact the potential project supervisors directly with your CV and academic records for further details before 8th February 2024.
Please note that once you contact them and, in the case that you are selected, you and the supervisor will need to discuss, write and complete a joint application that you will have to submit to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities before February 15, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. (European Central Time - Madrid).
That is why we recommend that you contact potential supervisors as soon as possible.
