Science, literature and geosciences come together in “Exploring the Earth: a journey with Verne”

On 12 March, Vigo hosted the closing event of the exhibition “Exploring the Earth: a journey with Verne and the geosciences”, an initiative of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) that brought the planet’s major scientific challenges closer to the public through the work of Jules Verne.

The exhibition, held at the A Laxe Shopping Centre, is part of the Geosciences Connection for a Sustainable Planet network and offers an outreach itinerary that links literature and science to address current challenges such as climate change, the energy transition and natural hazards.

The closing event included the talk “Verne, science and fiction”, delivered by José Garabatos Cuadrado, a member of the Jules Verne Society of Vigo, which explored the relationship between the author’s literary imagination and contemporary scientific advances.

The session was moderated by Ricardo Prego Reboredo, CSIC ad honorem researcher at the IIM, strengthening the link between outreach activities and the scientific community.

Through exhibition panels and digital content, the exhibition showed how the ideas imagined by Jules Verne in his novels are connected today with scientific knowledge and the major challenges of the 21st century.

An initiative that demonstrates the value of outreach in bringing science closer to society by connecting knowledge, culture and the future.
