Another 7 CSIC projects in Galicia will be funded through the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, including 6 at the Biological Mission of Galicia (MBG-CSIC) and 1 at Incipit.
Santiago de Compostela, 12 March 2020. CSIC is developing 14 new projects in Galicia funded by the “Research Challenges” and “Knowledge Generation” calls within the 2017-2020 State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, led by three of its five institutes.
The seven projects of the Institute of Marine Research (Vigo)
The IIM has obtained more than one million euros to carry out these new research projects.
The Marine Products Chemistry group leads a project on marine polar oils as a source of omega-3 PUFA and lipid mediators for healthy ageing, with Isabel Medina and Santiago Aubourg as principal investigators. Its aim is to establish the suitability of fish and fish-oil intake during ageing, with particular emphasis on neuroinflammation and related neurological and neurodegenerative disorders.
The Process Engineering group is developing multiscale modelling to understand metabolism dynamics and competition mechanisms in hybrid yeasts during wine fermentations, led by Eva Balsa. The group also leads InCO4In, focused on integrated whole-plant control and optimization for Industry 4.0, and ControlAR, aimed at process engineering based on modelling to control antimicrobial resistance in the food industry.
The Environmental and Food Microbiology group leads a project on microbial safety and preservation in food systems, while the Oceanology and Marine Biogeochemistry groups develop projects related to the marine environment, climate change, algal communities and associated organisms. Together, these projects strengthen the IIM’s research in marine foods, process engineering, biotechnology, ecology and ocean sciences.
Other CSIC projects in Galicia
Six projects will be developed at the Biological Mission of Galicia and one at the Institute of Heritage Sciences. They cover topics such as crop improvement, plant resistance, rural heritage and other strategic areas of research. With these projects, CSIC in Galicia reinforces its role in generating knowledge and transferring results to society.
