SICIM - Scientific Instrumentation and Quality
The IIM's Scientific Instrumentation and Quality Service (SICIM) is responsible for the maintenance and surveillance of the correct use of the center's equipment and facilities for general use, including scientific instruments such as autoclaves, centrifuges, freeze-dryers, cryofreezers, muffle furnaces, management of analytical gases, etc.
This service is also responsible for creating procedures and protocols for high-quality systems, training new users, purchasing equipment for general use and managing the inventory.
Objectives & Tasks
The SICIM working team collaborates with the different research areas at the IIM-CSIC through the development, adjustment and maintenance of instruments and techniques that contribute to the different research fields, to the methods employed and to scientific outreach.
Among the most important tasks carried out by the SICIM, it is worth highlighting the following:

- Distilled and ultrafiltered water supply system
- General cryogenic gases and liquids supply system

- Deep-freezing and sample storage equipment
- Labeling and management of new material
- Hazardous waste management

- Set-up of analytical techniques
- Material purchase: channeling commercial information
- Locating material and laboratory reagents for shared use
